Fernando Alonso: Mclaren This Season Give a Promising Indication in 2017-Fernando Alonso says McLaren improvement this season which promises to provide an indication of a similar move in 2017 where he hopes the team can capture the world title contender.
Having endured a nightmare 2015 with the return of Honda as engine suppliers McLaren, former F1 world champion said a major advantage in terms of speed and reliability with a power unit that has allowed the entire package to improve and fine-tuned.
The result is associated with a comment Fernando Alonso as the Spaniard claimed only two points finishes throughout 2015 compared with a strike rate that is much higher than eight-ten results so far in 2016.
Indeed, McLaren seems to be securing sixth in the constructors world championship F1 compared to nine last season and Alonso are looking for the same level of improvement in 2017.
"After the fight many years ago, we find ourselves in a position that we enjoy and compete with cars midfield. Next year we want to take the final step and striving for more of this," said Alonso.
"The last couple of races we will try to improve the car, learn about the car, especially for philosophy in front of the car so this is a race is important even if we do not fight for anything in Brazil and Abu Dhabi, there are still some important things that we need to answer for ourselves. "
With the introduction of new technical regulations as well as wider and fatter tires Pirelli in 2017, Alonso saw it as an ideal opportunity for McLaren to use sufficient resources to get ahead of competitors like to find a way back into F1 next network.
"I think we have a great opportunity with the new rules, because everything will be mixed," he said. "If we are able to produce a fast race car that we had the opportunity to do well.
"On the engine side I think we learned a lot this year, more than last year because last year it was the weekend that the power unit us we had to survive to make it last until the checkered flag. It was down on power, on top of the battery, The above reliability, above all, making it difficult to learn.
"This year I think we made a lot more fine-tuning the engine so I think knowledge this year will pay more next year with power unit so.
"I'm pretty sure about it so the big question mark is the new rules, new aerodynamics and that I am also confident because McLaren is a great team with a lot of resources, with a lot of chances so I think it looks good for next year."
McLaren last podium came in 2014 Australian Grand Prix, the dawn of the era of V6 Hyrbird in F1, where Kevin Magnussen finished second on his debut when Jenson Button took third place after Red Bull promoted Daniel Ricciardo disqualified for violation of post-race fuel flow.
